July is a busy month in Looe.
The harbour is full of visitors, the days are warm and restless, and change seems to be everywhere. School is coming to an end, Pony Club lessons are stepping up, and Emma feels herself growing — quietly, steadily — alongside her beloved pony, Emily.
As cross-country approaches, one challenge begins to loom larger than the rest: the water jump.
Emily doesn’t like water.
Emma isn’t sure about falling again.
With gentle guidance, calm adults, and the steady support of family and friends, Emma learns that bravery doesn’t always mean pushing forward. Sometimes it means listening. Sometimes it means waiting. And sometimes, when things go wonderfully wrong, it means laughing together and trying again.
Set against the rhythms of a Cornish summer — from busy harbour days and cheeky seagulls to sheep gathering on the farm and a dramatic RNLI rescue — Emily and the Water Jump is a warm, reassuring story about trust, resilience, and growing confidence in your own time.
Perfect for young readers who love ponies, animals, and real-life adventures, this gentle chapter book also supports emotional literacy, confidence-building, and understanding responsibility. It is especially loved by Pony Club families, riding schools, and readers navigating change.
